Frequently Asked Questions
How does BLUE-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy work?
Using a specialized device, our medical professionals kill acne-causing bacteria by emitting scattered, fluorescent light. Please note that this treatment uses fluorescent, instead of laser, light, and also does not emit UV light. Our light therapy not only kills bacteria, it also helps heal acne so it disappears faster. Thanks to this, the size of your follicles will gradually diminish, thus reducing the associated inflammation caused by large follicles. Typically, sessions last about 20 minutes.
What are the benefits?
Our BLUE-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy offers clear benefits by clearing up moderate acne through a series of treatments. It is a simple and non-invasive procedure, giving you the chance to clear up your acne without taking potentially harmful medications.
Does it hurt?
BLUE-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy typically causes no discomfort, although this can vary from guest to guest. Some people might feel stinging or burning during the treatment, but these symptoms will fade within 24 hours at the most.
How many treatments do I need?
Most guests need treatments once or twice a week, for roughly 5 weeks (although it varies depending on the severity of their acne, and their personal aesthetic goals). Please note that this series will clear up mild to moderate acne—for severe acne, please consider a different treatment.
Will I notice the difference right away?
Typically, results can be seen after a few weeks as the blue light begins to control and heal your acne. As time passes, you will see continued improvement until your treatment series ends.
Are there any side effects?
There are a few associated side effects with BLU-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy, such as:
- Burning or stinging, which will fade within 24 hours at the most
- Redness or swelling in the treated area, which will fade within 4 weeks of your last treatment
- Scaling or crusting, which will fade within 4 weeks of your last treatment
To minimize the potential of experiencing side effects, make sure to apply moisturizers as needed and avoid sun exposure unless you’re using adequate protection (such as a sun hat and sunscreen).
Where can I receive my treatment?
You can receive BLU-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy at our Visalia or San Luis Obispo locations.
