Frequently Asked Questions
How does IPL Photofacial Therapy work?
An IPL Photofacial is a 30-minute procedure (on average), during which intense pulses of light penetrate deeply into your skin, reducing or eliminating many common effects of aging. The pulses of light ignite a photo rejuvenation process, causing collagen and blood vessels below your skin to constrict, thus diminishing redness and melting wrinkles. At the same time IPL light stimulates collagen production, making skin even more smooth and tight. These pulses of light have been likened to the sensation of a rubber band snapping on your skin, and can be soothed with a cold compress after the procedure, although this is rarely necessary since the treatment causes only mild discomfort.
What are the benefits?
An IPL Photofacial can improve skin texture, minimize and eliminate discoloration, reduce pores and wrinkles, all with the effect of producing a more radiant, healthy, and clear complexion. People with rosacea (blotchy redness in the face) can also benefit from this procedure. Those wishing to reduce heavy lines or severe scars may want to consider a more aggressive treatment.
Does the treatment hurt?
Although it varies from guest to guest, most people only feel minimal discomfort during the procedure. Unlike most laser procedures, no skin is removed during treatment, ensuring little to no pain.
How many treatments do I need?
With each treatment, the results of IPL Photofacial Therapy become more and more evident, and the number of treatements you should undergo depend on your cosmetic goals. Typically, 5 treatments spaced 3 weeks apart are considered optimal.
What is the recovery time?
Luckily, this procedure has virtually no recovery period since there is almost no damage to your skin afterwards. Generally, people can continue their day normally after receiving IPL Photofacial Therapy.
Will I notice the difference right away?
Typically, benefits of the procedure will appear gradually within the weeks following treatment, and last for roughly 1 year.
Are there any precautions I should take before or after getting this procedure?
Those on Accutane should not receive this treatment until at least 6 months after they have stopped taking the acne medication. Pregnant women should also wait until after giving birth to undergo this procedure. After receiving this procedure, you should avoid sun exposure for a few days and be sure to wear sunscreen for at least 2 weeks. Take extra good care of your skin in the weeks following your treatment.
Are there any side effects?
Immediately following the procedure, you might experience redness, mild swelling and slight itching. These symptoms only last a few days.
Where can I receive my treatment?
You can receive IPL Photofacial Therapy at any one of our locations in Fresno, Visalia, and San Luis Obispo.
